Reverend Martin Childs, Jr.
The Reverend Martin Childs, Jr., is the pastor of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Prior to serving at Pilgrim Rest, he has served as Pastor of the Victory Church, and Director of Ministries, a full-time ministerial staff position, at Tabernacle Community Baptist Church, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In these pastoral positions, Reverend Childs has endeavored to serve the church and community through pastoral care, church ministry development, outreach ministry and community development. Before entering the ministry, Reverend Childs was an Elementary School Teacher in the Milwaukee Public School System.

Reverend Childs was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he was licensed to preach and ordained by the Tabernacle Community Baptist Church. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in Elementary Education and his Master of Divinity Degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.
Reverend Childs is active in the church and community through his preaching and teaching ministry. Reverend Childs is an instructor in the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, Wisconsin General Baptist State Congress of Christian Education, Milwaukee Theological Institute, Guest Lecturer at Marquette University, and has facilitated a number of workshops and conferences.
Reverend Childs is also active in the community through his participation on various boards including: the Milwaukee Black Liberation Theological Project, the Urban Faith Roundtable, and the
Amani Clergy Coalition; with community organizations and in other community projects. Reverend Childs is honored that Pilgrim Rest has taken seriously the mandate to move beyond the walls of the church to minister to the “least of these”. Most notable are their Missions Trip to Uganda, East Africa; their Missions Trip to the Mississippi Delta; the Adoption of an area public school, and ministry support for several ministries and programs that seek to transform lives.
Reverend Childs states, “I believe that the church possess the power necessary to stabilize the downward spiral of hopelessness and despair that is prevalent in many communities. Even, more, I believe that the church possess the vision and resources requisite for the transformation and re-unification of our communities.”
Reverend Childs is a family man. He and his wife, Thresessa, are the proud parents of their son, Martin IV and their daughter, Cierra Andrae.
